Class Agenda
============

Thursday, Oct. 13th, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. – Bring your jacket patterns to Nob Hill
Fabrics for discussion of general sizing, possible fabric choices, a discussion
of interfacing, possible underlining, lining and closures. (Jacket patterns
should include a collar with lapels and a button closure and preferably, princess
line seaming. Please, no zippers for this class!) If you have already selected
your fashion fabric, please bring it so we can determine if it is appropriate to
your pattern. Also at this session, instruction on pattern piece preparation for
Saturday’s class, and a list of sewing notions to bring to the next class,
including muslin.

Saturday, Oct. 22, 9:00 a.m. to noon - Alteration of patterns to achieve best
personal fits. Layout of altered pattern pieces on muslin, with instruction on
cutting and marking. Demo by teacher of setting sleeves professionally. Begin
sewing muslin if time allows.

Saturday, Oct. 29, 9 a.m. to noon – Return to class with body of muslin jacket
sewn up, including sleeves, remembering previous Saturday’s demo on sleeve setting!.
Last fit of muslins for fine tuning of jacket pattern pieces. Layout of pattern
onto fashion fabric, check of accurate layout and cutting of fashion fabric (also
lining pieces if time allows). Instruction on which pattern pieces will require
interfacing. Note: Fashion fabric, lining, interfacing and underling (if
required by fabric choice) must be acquired and with you at this meeting!

The body of each student’s jacket, less the collar must be sewn before the start
of the next class! Remember to set your sleeves using the method demonstrated by
the teacher, sewing the underarm and side seam in a continuous line of stitching
after the sleeve is attached to the front and back.

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 5:00 p.m. - Return with body of jacket sewn together, including
properly set sleeves. (Have your interfacing with you for this class!)The teacher
will demonstrate correct application of fusible interfacing to collar pieces and
front facings. Students will then apply their interfacing to collars and front
facings, stitch and turn their collars, and baste their collars onto the jacket.
A final fit check of each jacket will take place before end of class and a demo
of pressing a sleeve cap with a tailor’s ham. Application of shoulder pads will
also be demonstrated by the teacher. Sleeve cap pressing, shoulder pad insertion
and any suggested fine tuning of the jacket fit to be completed before the
beginning of the next class.

Saturday, Nov. 12, 9 a.m. to noon – Lining and facing assembly and "setting" the
lining to the jacket, including correct understitching and pressing. Demonstration
of correct hemming technique to accommodate "bagging" the lining to the garment
at the final class.

Saturday, Nov 19, 9 a.m. to noon – Bagging the lining to the garment, pressing the
hems, placing and sewing the buttonholes, sewing on the buttons and finishing small
handwork. Your jacket is done! (Be sure to bring your buttons to this class and
have some interfaced scraps of your fashion fabric to make a couple of buttonhole
"tests"!)

A sewing machine, in good working order, matching thread, good fabric scissors, your
own pins, a washable blue marking pen, cloth measuring tape, a tailor’s ham (if you
own one) and a point turner are required for all but the first session. Please take
the time to mark your equipment, so it goes home with you! Anyone that is willing
to also furnish an iron and ironing board, please contact me at lesash@q.com. I
hate to see us all fighting for usage of the two available ironing stations that
will be available during classes. Please try to be on time and ready to sew!
