We have 15 years of sewing magazine back issues -- Threads, Sew News and
others and we're giving them away. One free with purchase.

We have had several requests for basic garment sewing classes so we have
two of them coming up in July. And "Tricks of the Trade" was such
a hit we're doing it again July 9th. Sign up early for this one, there's
a six-student limit.

In other news, our new website is up and running with links to a
calendar listing upcoming classes and other events. We would also
like to add a list of available seamstresses for hire. If you would
like to be on that list, please send me contact information and a
brief (one-sentence) description of what you provide.

Stenciling

Stenciling-it's an easy, and great, way to apply unique design to fabric (or
pretty much anything else). Clothing, all kinds of home accessories, quilting
pieces, all without the cost, chemicals and technical knowledge needed for
screenprinting. And if you've ever wanted to try surface designing on fabric
but you didn't know where to start, or were hesitant, well stenciling is
probably the best, and easiest, place to begin. No one ever fails at it. Come
and be surprised that you don't even ned to be able to draw to stencil and
create unique designs. Just bring your thirst to create.

Saturday, June 11, 11-2
Cost: $40

Tricks of the Trade – (Or Avoiding that "Homemade" Look)

3-hour session by Leslie Berky Ashcraft cost - $45 class size limited to 6
July 9th, 12:30-4:30

This class will introduce and demonstrate a variety of construction techniques that
will result in professional looking garments, as well as make your sewing projects
easier to manage. We will discuss interfacings, underlining, different kinds of
linings, an easy, fool-proof method of bound buttonhole construction, "bagging
garments", dart etiquette, hidden zipper application, sleeve setting theory,
perfect collar points and pressing basics. Students are encouraged to bring up
their own construction concerns during class. The teacher will attempt to address
as many as possible.

Bring your sewing machine with dark thread. We will be making samples of some of
the techniques to take home and refer to later. (Muslin and zippers supplied by
teacher.)

Let’s Make a Flattering Skirt!

Two 1- 1/2 Hours sessions - $50
($10 non-refundable reservation required at Nob Hill Fabrics)

10% discount on fabrics purchased for this class at Nob Hill Fabrics.

Wednesday, July 13th and Tuesday July 19th, 5:00pm-6:30pm

4 to 6 students, intermediate to beginning sewers (if you are at least
somewhat familiar with your machine).

Brush up on your sewing (and fitting) skills in this workshop.
Students will be constructing a skirt using Simplicity 2451, selecting the view
and length of their choice:
     http://www.simplicity.com/p-4470-misses-skirts.aspx

Choose between a slightly pegged, above knee or knee-length (with kick
pleat) skirt having diagonal side pockets and a faced yoke waist or a
6-gore, flowing skirt of knee or longer length with the same diagonal side
pockets and faced yoke waist. This skirt pattern has been selected to give
students instruction and practice at hidden zipper insertion, "stay flat"
pocket installation and facing a waist instead of a using a traditional
waistband. This pattern will be flattering to almost any figure type and
shape!
